Why Exercise? Feel Good for Life!
Exercise is a vital part of your healthy lifestyle.
We all want a body that’s in shape. We would love to look younger. We want our blood to flow freely, and we want nice strong bones. And, of course, we all crave for a crystal clear mind. Exercise does all that.
Be Happy and Stress-free
Not only does exercise keep your body in shape, make you looking younger, improve blood circulation and prevent osteoporosis by strengthening your bones, but it also keeps you mentally fit. Exercise, especially the cardio-vascular kind, elevates your mood and decreases anxiety. As your heart rate goes up through exercise, your brain releases a chemical called “serotonin” that maintains a sense of well-being. Serotonin helps stabilize your mood by aiding with sleep, calming anxiety, and relieving depression.
Sometimes it seems we humans go searching for drugs and pills to make all the above happen for us, when the truth is, exercise does the trick. Medical experts agree that the fitter your body, the better you’ll be at handling stress … and that exercise can be more effective in curing depression than medicine!
Feel Good About Yourself
Most people also find that their level of self-esteem is much higher when they exercise regularly. That’s because taking care of yourself and your body gives you a higher sense of self worth. Many symptoms of PMS are also relieved with exercise. During those one or two weeks preceding your period, going to the gym will help balance your hormones which tend to be out of balance at that time. I know, I know – it’s not easy to get yourself motivated to work out at that time. Believe me, I’ve dragged myself, kicking and screaming, to the gym in exactly that period of time. But I felt so much better for it. You seem to get an instant energy and mood boost.
Burn It Off
Exercise also increases your Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR). As you exercise, all your metabolic functions “speed up”, burning more calories. You are able, therefore, to consume more calories in a day and burn it off even when your body is in a resting state. Isn’t that good news? People who exercise regularly are able to eat more without gaining weight. You still have to eat in moderation and eat the right healthy foods, but it means if you exercise, you may be burning more calories watching your favorite soap opera from your comfy sofa than you would be if you weren’t exercising.
Live a Long Life
Have I given you enough reasons why you should exercise yet? If those aren’t enough reasons, how about this: Exercise can actually save your life! Regular cardio and strength training greatly reduces your risk of heart disease, diabetes, and some forms of cancer.
Remember, this is your life, and your health, and only you are responsible for it, so make time for exercise and do it for yourself!
