How good is Vivekanand Education Society’s Institute of Technology in Terms of Placements?

Vivekanand Education Society came into being in the year 1959 when it was founded by Shri Hashu Advani. The first year of existence saw only 256 students admitted. Today that number has grown to 20,000 students. The society’s campus is over 3,75,000 sq. ft. and has over 28 institutions. There are over 2000 faculty members to teach the large student population.

The Vivekanand Education Society’s Institute of Technology or VESIT was established in the year 1984. It started as an institute with an aim to provide modern and upgraded knowledge in the engineering field. VESITis affiliated to the University of Mumbai and follows the rules and regulations set down by the Government of India, AICTE and the affiliating university. One hundred eighty-nine faculty members support the institute out of which 21 are PhD holders and 29 are pursuing their PhD.

Facilities at VESIT

The VESIT campus has been built and fitted with all modern facilities and technologies for the convenience of the students. There are research and development centres, laboratories and more. Their library has more than 44,000 books. Students studying in the analytics field has the Big Data Analytics Lab with Cloudera, USA. The institute has also built up an Innovation Lab in partnership with Accenture and an E-Yantra Lab in consultation with IITB.

There are also hostels on campus for students who wish to stay on campus. Besides the host of educational facilities, there are also sports facilities and games facilities for students to relax and enjoy. The entire campus has a wireless internet facility for the benefit of the students. There is also an amphi-theatre, seminar hall and a cafeteria.

Programmes

There are undergraduate, postgraduate and doctorate programmes that are offered by Vivekanand Education Society’s Institute of Technology. The undergraduate degree, Bachelor of Engineering have six departments. They are Electronics, Computer Engineering, Instrumentation, Electronics and Telecommunication, Information Technology and Humanities and Science.

The postgraduate degrees offered are Master of Engineering and Master of Computer Application. The ME degree is offered under three departments: Instrumentation, Information Technology and Electronics and Telecommunication.

For students who already have a master’s degree, VESIT has a PhD programme that can be applied to. Admission into the PhD programme is advertised on the website. Candidates can apply, and if they meet the university’s admission requirements, they will be shortlisted.

Admissions

Admission into the bachelors, masters and doctorate programmes at VESIT is based on an admission process. The Bachelor of Engineering programme requires candidates to submit MHT-CET or JEE-Main exam scores. Additionally, candidates must have passed their 10+2 level examinations with physics, chemistry and mathematics subjects. Once candidates meet the cut-off rank, they will go through Central Admission Process or CAP round where DTE, Mumbai assign the final seats.

Candidates who wish to take admission into Master of Engineering or Master of Computer Engineering programme must submit GATE examination score and MAH-MCA-CET exams respectively. The M. E program requires their candidates to have a bachelor’s degree in engineering, B.E or B.Tech degree with atleast 50% marks. The MCA programme requires candidates to be graduate from any discipline but must have completed their 10+2 level examinations with mathematics.

Application process

The application process to study at Vivekanand Education Society’s Institute of Technology is simple. Applications can be submitted online using the university’s application portal or in person. The candidate has to pay an application fee of Rs.1,770 if the application is submitted online. Payment can be done using net banking and through debit and credit cards. In person, submissions entail paying an application fee of Rs.100.

Placements

Vivekanand Education Society’s Institute of Technology has a dedicated placement cell that helps students get placed in jobs and also internships. The cell organizes workshops, interview skills, guest lectures, industry visits and more. It makes sure that students are well-prepared to become leaders in their field when they graduate and get placed. The placement cell has recorded top placement records since it was formed.

Some of the top recruiters at VEIST are JP Morgan, Nomura, MAQ Software, L&T Infotech, Indus Valley Partners, Tata Consultancy Services, General Mills, Accenture, SAP, Pragmatix etc. The academic year, 2019 to 2020 has witnessed high salary records. The highest salary was Rs.14 lakh per annum. Accenture made the highest number of job offers at 208. Twenty-two of those were for full stack engineer at a salary of Rs.6.5 lakh per annum and 186 was for an associate software engineer at Rs.4.5 lakh per annum.

For the Master of Computer Applications programme, the highest number of job offers were made by BNP Paribas followed by Applied Cloud Computing and CRISIL. A total of 21 companies made job offers to MCA students. For information and technology students, 32 companies made job offers. The Electronics and Computer departments saw 16 and 40 companies that made job offers to the students.
